Don’t Look Up Dibiasky x New Balance 550 Pallasite Meteorite
Netflix, Sotheby’s, the world’s largest marketplace for art and luxury, and New Balance have teamed up to produce an out-of-this-world collaboration to celebrate the Adam McKay-directed Netflix film, the Don’t Look Up Dibiasky x New Balance 550 Pallasite Meteorite.
For this special project, Netflix and Sotheby’s tapped Manchester-based sneaker artist, Matt Burgess of MattB Customs, to put together a uniquely celestial sneaker. The New Balance 550’s raised signature “N” logo on both the medial and lateral side as well as a section of the quarter have been filled in with actual fragments of a pallasite meteorite found on the dry bed of the River Hekandue of the Magadan District in Russia. The meteorite is dated 4.5 billion years old and in the core of an asteroid similar to Don’t Look Up’s Dibiasky Comet. Thirty-four meteorite fragments adorn the custom 550. The upper is entirely white leather and mesh and the tongue tab features New Balance Dibiasky branding. The lace-lock shows off a Widmanstätten pattern, the result of a meteorite cooling over millions of years. A white midsole and a grey outsole complete the look of this exclusive shoe. Proceeds from this limited edition will go to the World Wildlife Fund.
