As we get deeper and deeper into lockdown numero tres, looking forward to the new season is one of the only things keeping a lot of us going! I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely dreaming of sunny days, new dresses, pub gardens and just, well, normality. This summer might be the first time in a while you’ll be able to go out and flaunt some new garms, so I’ve rounded up all the trends set to take over the new season – so you can’t start your shopping now and, hey, even if you're still stuck indoors, at least you’ll be the best-dressed in the living room.
Let’s start with which sneakers are set to take over the new season. You’ll spot some familiar silhouettes and recognisable colourways, but trust me, these kicks aren’t going anywhere any time soon.
No points for guessing this one. The Nike Dunk’s reign as king of the kicks is set to continue well into 2021 with the first big drop happening on the 14th January. However, we think that Dunks will be a lot easier to get your hands on this year with retailers like ASOS getting in on the action. With more colourways landing on more sites, you should be able to get your hands on the Dunk you’ve had your eye on with no trouble.
Jordan 1 Low
2020 was a crazy year for the Jordan 1 Mid, but 2021 is going to see the rise of the Jordan 1 Low. A summer-friendly style that bears resemblance to the Dunk Low, the AJ1 is an icon in its own right and is going to land in loads of bright hues this year.
Nike Air Force 1 Pixel
While last summer played host to an array of new Nike Air Force 1 Shadow colourways, this year it’s all about the AF1 Pixel. Nike’s newest take on the classic basketball shoe, this video game-inspired silhouette sports a pixelated finish with abstract colourways to match. Guaranteed to be one of the shoes of the season, rumour has it that there are loads of new colourways set to land in 2021.
When it comes to clothing, we’re looking away from the catwalk this season and taking a glance at the more wearable trends. Comfort takes centre stage with tracksuits and cycling shorts and all-pastel everything is the day-to-day vibe.
The story this season is top-to-toe pastels. We’re talking lilac jeans, mint tees and canary cardis that’ll instantly boost your mood. There will be pastel-hued sneakers to match and you can even dig out last year’s AF1 Shadows (if you were lucky enough to get your hands on them).
On Your Bike
Cycling shorts are back and better than ever this season! Last year, the trend was slowly trickling in and it was tough to get your hands on the perfect pair, but this season you can expect all your favourite retailers to be dropping bike shorts in every colour you could want. Perfect when paired with an XL tee, you can’t go wrong with this comfy-but-cute fit.
Comfort Is Key
Having been in lockdown for nearly a year now, everyone has a penchant for comfort. Tracksuits are in and Nike has already started launching their bestselling joggers in summery colourways with sweatshirts to match. Spring will see full tracksuits out to play but as the weather gets hotter, it’ll be all about your best trackies, a bralette and your cutest kicks.
If there’s one thing that lockdown has taught us, it’s that we don’t need to go full glam every day. The upcoming season will see more natural makeup looks with subtle shimmers, dewy glows and glossy lips.
Skin Is In
Self-care has been an ongoing theme since last March and taking care of your skin has never been more essential. This summer is all about getting the perfect dewy glow so you can go makeup free and feel at your most confident! Sheet masks, hydrating treatments and SPF are in and full glam is out (unless the occasion calls for it, of course).
In the spirit of looking and feeling your very best, glosses and lip oils are making a comeback this season. With brands like Fenty, Iconic London and Charlotte Tilbury all leading the way, keeping your pout hydrated while giving your look a polished finish is what this summer is all about.
Less Is More
As hard as it is for us to admit, blinding highlighter is no more. Instead, the new season will see subtle shimmers on your cheeks and lids that’ll catch the light just as effectively. Letting your natural beauty shine is what 2021 is all about!
